TM Tecnologia achieves 100% availability of its systems to save lives with OCI

With over 26 years in the market,  TM Tecnologia  manages diagnostic medicine laboratories throughout Brazil, dedicated to overcoming challenges and bringing the innovation the diagnostic technology market needs. With over 2,000 accredited collection units, TM processes more than 360 million tests annually for over 72 million patients. Providing greater agility and safety through diagnostic technology.

TM Tecnologia faced the challenge of optimizing the performance and stability of its technological infrastructure to serve its customers with fast response times and consistently high quality of service.

Before adopting  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) , the company was dealing with infrastructure in a shared data center, high costs, and complexity in managing growing demands. This resulted in a mismatch in network model configurations. This negatively impacted the customer experience, as data processing was delayed.

Why TM Tecnologia chose Oracle: “OCI was chosen because it offers the best value for money on the market”

TM Tecnologia had previously contacted Oracle for a quote. In 2023, the need for immediate database improvements led the company to resume negotiations.

“With OCI, our infrastructure and connections have been significantly improved. We now use Object Storage to store patient reports, which was previously impossible due to the volume, resulting in a performance overhead. Additionally, we’ve integrated Oracle Analytics into our applications, offering a new and improved data visualization and analysis experience.”
Fabio Lobo – CTO

OCI’s differentiators that stood out to TM included its advanced security capabilities, scalability options, and the promise of better cost management.

The decision was also influenced by Oracle’s reputation in the market and the complete integration that OCI offers through APIs.

Results: “TM Tecnologia achieved a 30% improvement in the release and generation of online reports”

By using OCI, TM Tecnologia achieved a number of significant benefits. This included automated seasonal resource management, adjusting server allocation according to demand during closure periods. System availability improved considerably, reaching 100%, ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 service. Furthermore, with reduced costs and more efficient automated management, backup of local databases for systems interfacing with more than 300 hospitals was centralized.

Another significant aspect was the upgrade from the standard version of the database to  Oracle Enterprise , enabling significant improvements in database management. This upgrade enabled performance improvements through the use of parallelism and maximum utilization of the available infrastructure’s processing power.

Additionally, security measures such as encryption and anonymization of sensitive data were implemented to ensure greater privacy and control over patient information, in full compliance with current legislation, including the LGPD. To enhance customer security, a disaster recovery system was established in another cloud location.

TM continues to leverage  Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse  for independent analysis and reporting of the production database, benefiting from automated management and reduced costs. Furthermore, it integrated  Oracle Analytics  with a Business Intelligence (BI) tool, providing customers with a robust solution that meets their demands for management information. Furthermore, it was able to automate previously manual processes, such as firewall configuration, load balancing, and other assets, through the OCI API.

With all these improvements, TM Tecnologia automated the billing process, saving 10 times more time, reducing it from 40 minutes to 5. There was a 20% increase in report release speed and response time, resulting in a 30% improvement in the time it took to generate and release online reports. There was also a 15% reduction in support calls due to slowness and instability. Database transactions and queries improved by 23%. Finally, patients experienced a 15% improvement in the speed of their care.
